European Cup, all set for the slalom in Obereggen
Everything is ready for the Obereggen slalom
The European Ski Cup in Obereggen, the oldest on the continental circuit, in the heart of the Dolomite Ski Center Latemar area just 20 minutes from Bolzano, will celebrate its 40th edition with the slalom scheduled for Tuesday, Dec. 19, on the Maierl slope, one of the six that make up the Latemar Sixpack, literally the “abdomens of Latemar” a testament to its difficulty for athletes in tackling it.
The race will take place on Tuesday, December 19 (first run at 10 a.m., second run at 1 p.m. with Rai Sport deferred on the same evening of Tuesday, December 19 from 9:40 p.m.), for the seventh consecutive year on the Maierl slope (maximum slope gradient of 55 percent, elevation gain of 433 meters, length of 1.6 kilometers of track). The 2022 edition was won by Frenchman Amiez, second by Austrian Rueland, and third by Swiss Simonet. The Obereggen European Cup is, as usual, a prelude to the World Cup slalom scheduled in Madonna di Campiglio on December 22. Tradition dictates, given the quality and slope gradient of the Maierl slope excellently prepared by the organizing committee, that those who did well in Obereggen, then è were also protagonists on the 3Tre.
The founders of the Europe Cup were Alois Braun, Siegfried Gallmetzer, Luciano Pezzin, Siegfried Pichler, Peppi Staffler, founders of the Europe Cup with the late Bruno Fusmini; a key organizational role was also played by Anton Herbst, Josef Pichler, Karl Pichler, Harald Anegg, Martina Hofer, Maurizio Odorizzi, Marco Zendron, Paolo Guerra, Josef Gummerer.
