Val Gardena SuperG, Italy home only Mattia Casse and Guglielmo Bosca do well
SuperG of Val Gardena, in Italy home well only Mattia Casse and Guglielmo Bosca
Vincent Kriechmayr and Daniel Hemetsberger pack an Austrian one-two in the Val Gardena superG at the end of a race conducted on the edge of hundredths, with the podium completed by Marco Odermatt enclosed in just three hundredths of a second. Italy greeted Mattia Casse’s eighth place, 0”29 behind Kriechmayr, and Guglielmo Bosca’s 10th at 0”39.
It’s been a vibrant race on the Saslong, with a rather streamlined course that made even the smallest details decisive: only 2 hundredths of a second prevented Hemetsberger from celebrating his first career victory to the benefit of Kriechmayr, who instead cashes in on victory number 17, his eighth in the superG.
With Odermatt not wanting to get off the podium, there’s room in fourth position for Frenchman Cyprien Sarrazin (+0”12) with fellow Austrian Marco Schwarz fifth at 0”13.
Mattia Casse skied well in the upper part of the course, running into some inaccuracies on the Ciaslat that separated him from the top positions of the ranking. Similar discourse for Bosca, author of the best overall tally on the centering section of the Sasslong to then in turn accuse on the Ciaslat, today the key point of the Gardena slope.
Less feeling in the’shadow of the Dolomites for the other azzurri, with Florian Schieder 37th at 1”09, Benjamin Jacques Alliod 49th at 1”59 followed by a Christof Innerhofer (50th) who struggled to find the right speed in the upper part of the slope. Next, 55th place for Dominik Paris, 58th for Pietro Zazzi and 60th for Giovanni Franzoni and 63rd for Giovanni Borsotti.
Mattia Casse è satisfied and looks forward to the downhill on Saturday, Dec. 16, on the full course. “Another solid run, I tried not to give anything to anyone. I was almost close at the bottom. I am skiing well, even in superG I thought I was doing well and all in all è it was a good day. We did a good preparation and finally we were able to race and the race pace is coming. Tomorrow is the downhill from the top, it will be different from yesterday and the conditions will be a little bit; harder for everyone”.
Some recriminations instead for Bosca who tied a career best – “A beautiful race, when I saw the intermediates I said to myself that without those little mistakes at Ciaslat I really could have made the breakthrough. I am happy with my skiing and my steady growth. I was already happy with Thursday’s race. In the summer I grew a lot both physically and technically: I am confident in the work done”.
“I struggled a little bit, I could not be brilliant on the course – were the impressions of Dominik Paris – It’ was a bad day but now there’è to think about tomorrow– the downhill. It’ll be a different race than Thursday’ and I have to be ready”.
Christof Innerhofer struggled to find the feeling with this superG “I è lacked a little bit’ of speedà in the upper part, compared to yesterday. The race was pretty easy, to be tackled almost all in position and just for that the initial speed è crucial. I don’t think I skied badly but the feeling was not the same”.
On Saturday, December 16, the World Cup stage in Val Gardena will be completed with a downhill that will kick off at 11:45 a.m.
