Lucia Dalmasso second, Roland Fischnaller third: two days after the one-two punch in Carezza, Italian snowboarding celebrates two more podium finishes also in the parallel giant in Cortina d’Ampezzo. It’s a special Saturday experienced on the Ampezzo snow and which recorded the successes of Benjamin Karl from Austria and Ramona Theresia Hofmeister from Germany. Best in the qualifying round, the 43-year-old captain Fischnaller brought all his experience to bear to grab the 49th podium of his career, the tenth on the Ampezzo snows where he was able to win on five occasions.
Victorious in the round of 16 over Austria’s Pink, in the quarters Fischnaller overcame a Maurizio Bormolini fresh from his success in Carezza only to surrender in the semifinals to a fall in the confrontation with another veteran Benjamin Karl. In the final for third place, Slovenian Zan Kosir could do nothing against Fischnaller’s determination not to come down from the Cortina podium.
Great test overall for the team directed by Cesare Pisoni: Edwin Coratti confirmed himself in great condition, overtaken by Kosir in the quarters for the fifth place finish, with Bormolini eighth and Daniele Bagozza ninth, disqualified for straddling at the end of the victorious eighth with Bulgarian Yankov; fourteenth place finally for Aaron March, out in the octtaves against the same Karl.
In the women’s event, Lucia Dalmasso in Cortina experiences the second final of her career, securing a new podium finish after the one she got in the opening 2023 in the Canadian Blue Mountain. To get there, she has to overcome in the round of 16 Elisa Caffont (she will be 14th) and in the quarters Jasmine Coratti (eighth) and then get the better of Austrian Sabine Schoeffmann in the semifinals, who will then go on to complete the podium.
In the decisive round Dalmasso tried to hold off Germany’s Ramona Theresia Hofmeister who però confirmed herself as unbeatable in this first part of the season, going on to repeat her success in Carezza. In the first race after the withdrawal of Nadya Ochner, Dalmasso therefore takes the stage by putting in her bag a new second place that brings her ever closer to the’absolute elite.
