Federica Brignone dominates Super-G in Val d’Isere, Sofia Goggia also on podium
Dominant performance for Federica Brignone
Federica Brignone won in Val d'Isere her third victory in the Women’s Alpine Skiing World Cup, her first in Super-G after her two giant slalom victories on Mont Tremblant. The champion from Val d’Aosta literally left her opponents no chance, finishing with a time of 1:21.58: Norway’s Kajsa Vickhoff Lie, who è won second place, in fact finished 44 hundredths behind.
Rounding out the podium of another brilliant day for the blue colors è Sofia Goggia: the Bergamasque, who came down with bib number 14 (Brignone had instead come down eighth) finished in 1:22.17, 59 hundredths behind her national teammate. For Goggia è it was her third top-three finish in the season, following her first place in the Super-G in St. Moritz and her second, also in the Swiss resort, in the downhill.
Sunday’s race è was marked by several withdrawals: the most significant were those of New Zealand’s Alice Robinson (who went down with bib number 5), Switzerland’s Lara Gut-Behrami (sixth in the starting order), Italy’s Marta Bassino (who went down just after Brignone) and the American champion Mikaela Shiffrin, who was ahead of the Aosta Valley girl after the first intermediate time.
As for the other Italians, a good seventh place for Laura Pirovano should be noted, who did not suffer more than a little from the fact that she came down first. In the specialty ranking; Sofia Goggia remains ahead of all with 160 points but sees her teammate/rival, second at 145, approaching.
