Coppa Italia, another excellent elimination: Bologna beats Inter in overtime
Coppa Italia, Inter-Bologna 1-2 dts
After Fiorentina, Lazio and Frosinone, Bologna also qualified for the quarterfinals of the Coppa Italia: the Felsinei confirmed their brilliant season momentum by eliminating defending champion Inter from the domestic cup, thanks to a 2-1 comeback success after extra time at the San Siro. It's the second excellent elimination in the space of 24 hours, after that of Napoli overwhelmed by Di Francesco's Ciociari.
Unlike the last few Serie A outings, however, Bologna seemed initially more timid and left the initiative to Inter from the first minutes: Klaassen, Frattesi and Carlos Augusto tried in the first half, but Ravaglia always kept a good guard and it went to halftime at 0-0. The script of the match doesn't change in the second half and after an unsuccessful attempt by Arnautovic, the first big chance arrives at 65's: Corazza touches the ball with his arm wide in the box, the referee and Var agree on the awarding of the penalty but Lautaro gets hypnotized by Ravaglia.
Thuram, Barella, Dimarco and Sensi on one side, El Azzouzi, De Silvestri, Ndoye and Zirkzee on the other side enter in the final of the regulation matches: the result però does not change, we go to extra time. It takes just under two laps of the clock to find the goal that deludes the Nerazzurri: cross from the crossbar by Dimarco, precise header by Carlos Augusto, who leaves no chance for the goalkeeper of the Felsinei and signs the 1-0.
Bologna, however, è far from being on the ropes, reacted vehemently and after a few minutes of readjustment went on to take the match: in minute 112 è Beukema to equalize, making the most of Zirkzee's heel assist on the development of a corner; four minutes later è Zirkzee again signed a decisive pass, a beautiful filtering that put Ndoye in a position to get in front of Audero and pass him with a delicate underhand shot.
Inter does not have the strength nor the time to counter-attack: Bologna takes the qualification and will play in the quarterfinals against Fiorentina, in an Apennine derby that will put up a place among the four semifinalists of the Coppa Italia. Instead, the dream of a trio for the Nerazzurri fades: it will be another team to win the trophy in 2024, after two consecutive successes of the Beneamata.
