Holger Rune welcomes Roger Federer’s right hand man and warns rivals
Major reinforcement for Holger Rune’s staff
After experiencing a 2023 in chiaroscuro, especially in the second part of the year, while still managing to finish the season in the Top 10, Holger Rune has decided to make things big: through a post published on his social channels, in fact, the Danish tennis player has announced the entry on his staff of Severin Luthi, historical coach as well as a loyal collaborator of Roger Federer.
The photo posted by Rune sounds almost like a warning to rivals: in addition to Luthi è in fact, Boris Becker, who has been working with the current number 8 in the ATP rankings for a few weeks now, is also present. The goal è to improve on what he did last season and, whyé no, to do well as early as the Australian Open, which will be played in the second half of January.
In 2023, Rune won only one major circuit tournament, the Munich ATP 250 in April, beating Van de Zandschulp in the final. In the same month, he also reached one of two finals he lost in the season, at the Monte Carlo Masters 1000 against Andrey Rublev, while in May he came close, without winning, to another 1,000-point tournament, in Rome, won in the final by Daniil Medvedev.
At the Slam level, however, Rune had career-best results in 2023 at the Australian Open (fourth round), Roland Garros, and Wimbledon (quarterfinals on both occasions). Less well è went at the US Open, however, where the Dane did not è go beyond the first round, beaten by Roberto Carballés Baena.
