Fabio Fognini, no Australian Open
Fabio Fognini, no Australian Open
No dice for Fabio Fognini. The Ligurian tennis player, in fact, will not participate in the upcoming Australian Open, kicking off from January 8 with the qualifying draw, in which he was already not registered. The Italian confirmed his absence through a message posted on his Instagram account.
"Unfortunately, I am not able to take part in the AO qualifying round – wrote the Taggiasco -. The recovery from the calf injury has taken longer than expected and therefore my 'off-season' has only started a few days ago. I need moreù time to be able to compete. See you soon".
Fognini had injured his calf against German Tom Gentzsch in the first-round match of the Challenger of Maia, Portugal, which was nevertheless brought to an end with a win by the Italian, who was forced to forfeit in the next round against Frenchman Matteo Martineau.
