Ferrari, Frederic Vasseur: "A nice reaction after a difficult start to 2023"

Frederic Vasseur’s first year as Ferrari’s team principal è was two-sided: the first part of 2023 almost disastrous, the second decidedly better, so much so that for the Maranello house è came the only victory in the entire World Championship not to be Red Bull’s, that of Carlos Sainz in Singapore. Here is how Vasseur reviews 2023 on the Italian version of motorsport.com.

"We have already changed some people but I don&#39t like to name names, I never have and I never will. In the end, it is not about a person, including my figure, the most important thing è the working group we have, I am proud of the reaction the team had during the season, everyone, including the drivers, we were able to react after six difficult months and starting from Monza we saw the results. Then we know that in an’organization there are always some individual changes to be made and we are doing that, we are hiring a lot, but we know the Formula 1 system. At’the beginning there’è a kind of huge inertia due to the contracts in place".

"When you realize that you have a problem that needs to resort to hiring, we know that a new person joining the team will have to comply with twelve months of gardening, a six-month notice period, and after that period, they can only be active on the following year’s project. So from the time when you have a need for a person to the time when they will be operational, you are likely to have two to three years. So I think for us the most important point was the improvement on the approach and the mentality. I think in the end we took more risks and were able to be a little bit more’ aggressive".

"When we said we were in a difficult situation at the beginning, we were probably two or three tenths behind. We have moved up one or two tenths. Now the grid è so compact and tight that for one or two tenths you canò completely change the physiognomy of the weekend. In Japan we made an improvement, but it wasnè t great. I am still convinced that it is more on the operation of the track that we made the step in the last third of the season, much more than on the development of the car. In the last part of the season we were much more aggressive. And è it&#39s a matter of tenths. You make up 2 cents here and 2 cents there; and in the end è a tenth".
