Season over for Marco Schwarz
World Cup loses a major player
The 2023-24 Alpine Ski World Cup loses one of its main protagonists: just hours after the tremendous fall during the downhill in Bormio, the Austrian Alpine Ski Federation has confirmed that Marco Schwarz has suffered a ruptured cruciate and will therefore be forced to skip the rest of the season.
"Unfortunately, the Carinthian must end the season early,” reads the 'X' profile of the Austrian alpine ski team, in a note published on Thursday evening.
In the fall in Bormio, he suffered a rupture of the cruciate ligament and medial meniscus, as well as damage to the cartilage of his right knee".
It was a very hard blow for Schwarz, who had won the night slalom in Madonna di Campiglio on December 22 and occupied (and actually still occupies, until the next races take place) second place in the overall World Cup standings and first in the special slalom, which he had already won in the 2020-21 season. To recover from the injury will take several months, a recovery before the end of the season è virtually impossible.
The Bormio downhill è was won by Frenchman Cyprien Sarrazin, ahead of Swiss Marco Odermatt and Canadian Cameron Alexander. Odermatt è first in the overall CdM standings with 536 points and travels unchallenged toward the title (Schwarz will remain stationary at 464 points, third è Sarrazin at 200).In the downhill ranking è it is still the Swiss who commands with 176 points, 16 more than the American Bryce Bennett and Norwegian Aleksander Aamodt Kilde.
