Inter, Marotta thunders: "Stop Growth Decree? Irreparable damage"
Inter CEO Beppe Marotta, in an interview with TG1, harshly criticized the government’s decision to stop the Growth Decree: "At a time when Italian soccer was climbing the ladder at the world and European level, with the three finals of the European cups reached last season, abolishing the Growth Decree represents an own goal for the world of football and for the country in general"
"Not only players benefit: there are also coaches who came to Italy and got tax breaks thanks to the Decree".
"The tax breaks of the Growth Decree were aimed at facilitating the entry of quality players into Italy,” Marotta later explained to Sky. “Without these players, our league will be impoverished, the product 'Serie A' will suffer, and there will also be less revenue for the state in terms of taxes".
"Now we will have to find adjustments, but the abolition of the Growth Decree has produced irreparable damage to the entire soccer system. We will be less competitive at the European level and our league will also be affected, not only the big ones but also the medium-small ones will have less revenue because the product will be less attractive for TVs. It was an important tool a little more than a year and a half after the start of the first 32-team World Cup for clubs, with two of our teams at the start".
According to Marotta, Italy’s nurseries and youngsters will not benefit from the situation: "They were not disadvantaged by the arrival of champions from abroad and indeed having strong players to train with allowed them to grow. This decision to abolish the Decree will bring no benefit to our football"
