Serie A: Fiorentina beats Torino in the final, no goals between Napoli and Monza
Fiorentina-Torino 1-0, Napoli-Monza 0-0
The 18th day of Serie A begins with a narrow domestic success and a goalless draw: at the 'Franchi' the host Fiorentina beats Torino 1-0, while at the 'Maradona' Napoli’s mechanisms remain jammed and Monza snatches a point, drawing 0-0 and wasting among other things also a penalty kick.
As for the challenge between Vincenzo Italiano’s Viola and Ivan Juric’s Granata, the match reserved very few emotions for over eighty minutes, with both teams unable to baste really dangerous chances. It's the first half that is favored (Lazaro engages Terracciano at 37', Bonaventura sends out just wide at 43'), but è in the resumption that the goal arrives, at minute 83: Kayode’s cross for Ranieri, the ball hit on the dive by the latter overcomes Milinkovic-Savic and, in fact, is worth the three points.
More animated was the match played in the Campania capital, although the goal did not come: Napoli tried its best to get out of the crisis and made itself dangerous, in the first half, especially with Kvaratskhelia and Anguissa. Monza does not stand idly by and even manages to earn a shot from the penalty spot on 66' (Mario Rui’s hands, penalty awarded after lengthy consultation with the Var), but Pessina gets hypnotized by Meret, who on the occasion, among other things, also gets hurt (in his place there is Contini). Intense and nervous final, technicians Mazzarri and Palladino as well as Monza striker Maric (from the bench) get sent off, but the result does not change: it ends 0-0.
Thus, Fiorentina’s run in the Europa zone continues, and at least for one night it enjoys fourth place (33 points, momentarily surpassing Bologna committed Saturday in Udine). Napoli moves very little in the standings, rising to 28, Torino remains at 24, while Monza rises to 22 and continues to sail quietly in the belly of the table.
