Now è official: Lewis Hamilton, 39 years old on Jan. 7, will race with Ferrari starting in 2025, when he will then be 40. The Maranello stable itself announced this on X. Here are the words of the house of the prancing horse.
“Scuderia Ferrari è pleased to announce that Lewis Hamilton will join the team in 2025, with a multi-year contract”. These are the words in the Maranello team’s post. Hamilton will thus leave the Mercedes team at the end of the year after 12 seasons and six world titles won in 2014, 2015, 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020, in addition to one won in 2008 with McLaren, with which he raced from 2007 to 2012.
Hamilton has competed in 332 Grands Prix winning 103 of them, an all-time record, with 104 pole positions, 65 fastest race laps and 197 total podiums. In the world rankings he è never dropped below sixth place.
Ferrari hired a driver who è had already been world champion with other teams. Only Juan Manuel Fangio and Michael Schumacher have also managed to win with the Cavallino after already winning the ’iris elsewhere, all the others have not, and their names are Giuseppe "Nino" Farina, Mario Andretti (who però had already raced in Maranello before the title with Lotus, only to return a decade later), Alain Prost, Fernando Alonso and Sebastian Vettel.
