Daniel Yule: sensational comeback in Chamonix, Alex Vinatzer in top 10
Daniel Yule wins the Chamonix slalom, recovering from 30th position in the first fraction (first time in World Cup history), on a slope that was getting hotter and hotter, making it impossible for the top finishers in the first part of the race to stay on the Swissman’s times. Yule then won with a time of 1’36"24, ahead of Loic Meillard, off by 16 cents, fifth at the halfway point, and then Clement Noel, first after the first, and off by 18 cents at the end.
Good race for Alex Vinatzer, who recovers 11 positions and finishes 10th with 46 hundredths behind Yule, and also takes points from Stefano Gross, 21st and up 3 positions. Second heat on’attack for Brianza’s Tommaso Sala, who però runs into a couple of mistakes and finishes in 26th place, after seventh in the middle of the race.
Feller always leads the specialty rankingà with 490 points, ahead of Strasser at 326 and Yule who rises to 285. Sala è the first of the Azzurri, with 113 points in 17th place.
Alex Vinatzer’s words to official FISI channels: "The slope got so hot and whoever placed better in the first run had to make big runs to stay ahead. "There’were conditions a little bit difficult to understand, I was a little bit’ too round. Maybe you could have looked for moreù line, my strategy did not pay" said Stefano Gross.
