Lewis Hamilton to Ferrari, Mercedes to Max Verstappen? That’s how they see it in Red Bull
The big news in Maranello could generate a domino effect.
Lewis Hamilton at Ferrari has upset the "cascomarket" of Formula 1 ahead of 2025 even before the 2024 championship has experienced even its first pre-season tests. There remains, however, the unknown about some very important boxes that need to be defined in order to get a clear picture of next year’s grid, and some doubts are also beginning to swirl around Max Verstappen.
The Dutch driver, who has won the last three world championships, è bound to Red Bull by an iron-clad contract. Despite this, però, even Helmut Marko candidly admitted that he expects he may soon be called up by a Mercedes that will inevitably be in a hurry to secure a top driver after Hamilton's farewell. He does not believe, however, that this eventual mission will have a positive outcome.
"Toto Wolff will certainly try. His attempt, però will not be successful. We are talking about Max Verstappen, a champion and a man with a good memory", Helmut Marko told the microphones of the Germans of 'sport.de' in an only apparently sibylline manner. The reference è to the very heated tones exchanged between Mercedes and Red Bull during the 2021 season. An element that, according to the Austrian team’s long-time consultant, could convince the Dutch driver not to consider a move to Brackley.
