World water polo championships, 22-goal debut for Setterosa
Italy beats Great Britain 22-10
It begins with a very clear 22 to 10 the 2024 edition of the Women's World Water Polo Championship for the Setterosa team coached by coach Carlo Silipo. The match was valid for the first day of Group D, which in addition to the Italians and the British includes the national teams of South Africa and Canada. the Azzurre won each of the four parts of the match: in both the first and fourth periods they scored 5 goals while conceding three, while in each of the middle periods Italy scored 6 goals while conceding 2.
Four goals were scored by Silvia Avegno and Roberta Bianconi, three for Sofia Giustini and Agnese Cocchiere, and two for Giulia Viacava and Veronica Gant. Completing the scoreboard, with one goal scored each, were Giuditta Galardi, Dafne Bettini, Claudia Roberta Barletta and Lucrezia Lys Cergol.
For the British, however, Cecily Turner scored three times, Toula Falvey and Katy Cutler with a brace, and Katie Brown, Brooke Tafazolli and Kathy Rogers with one goal each. Italy will face, in the other two group matches, South Africa on Tuesday, Feb. 6, and Canada on Thursday, Feb. 8. First in the group advances directly to the quarterfinals, second and third go to the playoffs instead.
