Medvedev forfeit: Jannik Sinner to Holland for world podium finish
Forfait of Medvedev: Jannik Sinner in Netherlands for world podium
No immediate rematch between Jannik Sinner and Daniil Medvedev: the Russian tennis player has decided to forfeit the Atp 500 tournament in Rotterdam because he is not yet in perfect physical condition. The Muscovite last season had won the title in the Netherlands precisely against the South Tyrolean tennis player, who was beaten in the final.
"Unfortunately, I have to give up the tournament in Rotterdam. After a long Australian trip my body (and especially my right foot) is not è ready to take the court and defend the title. I love playing in Rotterdam and look forward to returning in 2025".
Jannik Sinner will thus be the number one seed in the draw: if he wins the tournament, the Azzurro will rise to third place in the ATP rankings, thus climbing for the first time in his career onto the podium of the world rankings: it would be the first time ever for an Italian tennis player in the Open era.
Sinner last season had lost in three sets to the Russian, who won by the scores of 7-5, 2-6, 2-6.
