A day to remember for Italy's track and field, with the Italian athletes absolute protagonists of the meeting in Torun (Poland), a stage of the World Indoor Tour Gold: in fact, the Italian records in the women's 60 and men's 1500 meters indoors change thanks to the performances of Zaynab Dosso and Ossama Meslek, while Andy Diaz made the triple jump competition his own by updating the world best seasonal performance.
In the women’s 60 meters, Dosso stopped the clock at 7.02, three hundredths better than the previous national record she set last Jan. 27 in Lodz. The competing Blue Flames athlete finished in second place, just one hundredth behind host Ewa Swoboda.
Ossama Meslek also updated an Italian record he held himself, improving it by as much as 41 hundredths: finishing fifth in the men's 1,500 race (won by the elite Samuel Tefera), the 27-year-old Army man rewrote a record that è changed four times in the past two weeks, bringing it to 3:35.63.
Andy Diaz, on the other hand, won the triple jump competition, coming in at a measurement of 17.61, which renews the world best performance this season (signed by the Cuban-born blue athlete himself) by a full 15 centimeters. As for other notable performances for the Italians, Lorenzo Simonelli’s second place in the 60 hurdles and Catalin Tecuceanu’s third in the 800 are worth mentioning.
