Boris Becker no longer è the coach of Holger Rune

Boris Becker takes a step back: the legendary former German champion has announced in a message on his official X profile that he has stepped down as Holger Rune’s coach. For the Danish tennis player, a kind of revolution is looming at the staff level, since a few days ago he had also sportingly parted ways with Severin Luthi.

"I would like to inform you,” Becker wrote, “that he will be leaving the role of Holger Rune coach with immediate effect. We started this partnership with the’initial goal of reaching the ATP Finals at the end of last year, but going forward I realized that to be successful I would have to be available to Holger much more than I could".

"I have professional and private responsibilities,” added the three-time winner at Wimbledon, as well as two-time Australian Open champion and one-time US Open champion.

I cannot give Holger what he needs now. I wish him only the best and will always be his No. 1 fan. I have really enjoyed this journey together".

Holger Rune started his season quietly, stopping in the second round of the Australian Open where he è was defeated in four sets by French wild card Arthur Cazaux. Rune, 20, boasts four titles at the ATP circuit level, the most important of which is the 2022 Paris-Bercy Masters 1000, which he won by beating Novak Djokovic in the final.
