WTA Cluj-Napoca: Elisabetta Cocciaretto and Sara Errani fly to the round of 16
Italian doubles in the WTA 250 in Cluj-Napoca, Romania. Elisabetta Cocciaretto and Sara Errani, in fact debuted with a win at the 'Transylvania Open': the tennis player from the Marche region did not give a chance to the Colombian qualifier Emiliana Arangio, number 122 in the WTA ranking, handing her a clear 6-0 6-1 after one hour and five minutes of play; the Romagna native beat the American Caty McNally, number 170 in the world, with the score of 6-2 6-4 after one hour and twenty minutes of play.
"I tried to raise the level of my tennis during the match – commented Cocciaretto warmly -. The first match of a tournament è always a bit’ complicated but I am satisfied with the level I managed to express. How do I see the next round against Dart? I have never played against her però I know that è a good player and in any case here she has already won three matches. Here è everything is very beautiful: this court è like the stage of a theater. There’è a reason why this tournament è was awarded as the best "250" in the last two seasons".
"In the first set she didn't play so well, I definitely started better – said Errani – in the second I felt a little bit tired, so many hard-fought games. However, I am glad I brought it home. What drives me to keep playing? The passion I always have for this sport and that makes me face one match after another with the same enthusiasm".
In the round of 16, scheduled for Thursday, Cocciaretto will face Britain’s Harriet Dart, number 103 in the rankings, who also came through the qualifiers, while Errani will find on the other side of the net Germany’s Tatjana Maria, number 49 in the rankings and the second seed in the seeding.
