World Championships Doha: Nicolò Martinenghi d'silver in the 100 breaststroke

Nicolò Martinenghi won the silver medal in the 100 breaststroke at the World Swimming Championships in Doha. The Italian swimmer finished the event in 58"84, taking the second step of the podium behind American Nic Fink, who scored a time of 58"57. Bronze medal, however, went to Britain’s Adam Peaty, who finished his race in 59"10.

"Oddly enough, I questioned whether this could be the third podium in three editions of the World Championships. It was a strange race, apart from Nic who flew in the first 50 meters I couldn't see anything, we were a bit slow. This testifies how every race è to sé, the important thing è to know how to be there at the right time" began the blue swimmer to the microphones of Rai.

“I showed that when I have to pull out the grit I put it all in, medal or not. This for me è reason for pride; I have been through a difficult year, this for me marks a new beginning with one more medal," added the Varese native.

"I feel pretty exhausted. I wanted to pass on the 27"40 in the first 50 and I succeeded, I hoped to do a little better in the return tank and reduce the gap from Fink. I knew I was worth just under 59 seconds today, I didn&#39t know it was that way for others besides Nic. When I saw the second light on the block, which was equivalent to second place, it made me very happy" Nicolò Martinenghi commented.
