Official, Serie A remains at 20 teams
20-team Serie A
Serie A remains at 20 teams. In recent days there had been renewed talk of the possibility of reducing the top Italian league to 18 formations, as for example in the Bundesliga (but not in the Premier and La Liga), but today the League è in fact pronounced itself contrary.
"The Lega Serie A approved today, during the course of the Assembly held at its headquarters in Via Rosellini, its own policy document containing proposals for the reform of Italian soccer,” reads a note. During the same meeting, è the absolute necessity of maintaining in the federal statute the right of understanding, as in the main European football systems, was reaffirmed. It’ was, moreover, confirmed the current 20-team format of the Serie A championship".
In the last three years the scudetto è has been won in order by Inter, Milan and Napoli. Previously, for nine seasons in a row, it had gone to Juventus, which was able to win it with first Antonio Conte (three successes for the Salento native) on the bench, then Massimiliano Allegri (five) and then Maurizio Sarri, who was then replaced by Andrea Pirlo. At the beginning of the millennium, the last two Scudettos went to teams with non-vertical striped jerseys: Lazio won it in 2000, Roma in 2001.
