Splendid Simona Quadarella! World gold and Olympic pass
Extraordinary Simona Quadarella: the Roman swimmer won the gold medal in the 1500 freestyle at the World Championships in Doha. The 24-year-old Italian won ahead of China's Bingjie Li, a silver medalist, and Germany's Isabel Gose, a bronze medalist. Quadarella triumphed with a time of 15'46"99, earning her pass to the Paris Olympics.
"I’m really happy, I wanted to win, I knew the medal was within my reach but I didn’t think I would do 15'46" and that’s why I’m even more happy", said the Roman after the race.
"I wanted to take this gold. There'è so much Simona in this medal, today I put something more in it. To whom do I dedicate this medal? To myself, I was struggling so much lately, I thought several times if it was right to come to Doha then I decided to come and test myself".
At the Olympics Simona’s big rival will be the very strong Katie Ledecky, who did not participate in the World Championships to focus on the selections in the US.
