World Water Polo Championships, untamed Settebello: Italy in semifinals
Italy è qualified for the semifinals of the Water Polo World Championships in Doha at the end of a thrilling quarterfinal against Greece. The Azzurri won on a comeback in the final minutes 11-10, clinching a place among the top 4 at the ongoing rainbow event in Qatar.
Sandro Campagna’s men had the merit of always believing, even when they found themselves down 10-8 with 2 minutes and 30 seconds left in the match: three Azzurri goals in the final minutes turned the challenge around. Scoring for Italy Condemi and Fondelli with two doubles, goals also for Di Fulvio, Damonte, Echenique, Presciutti and Velotto.
Così coach Campagna: "This è the path I wanted to take, with these tough matches. The team excited me, we never gave an inch. We were not brilliant, the fatigues take their toll, Greece was more fresh and intense. We were coming late in all situations, then we grew and the guys were fantastic".
Italy on Thursday, Feb. 15 at 2 p.m. will play against Spain for a place in the world finals.
