Rafael Nadal, comeback slips again
After a successful comeback in the Brisbane ATP 500, Rafael Nadal è was forced to skip the Australian Open due to a micro muscle tear. The Spanish tennis player's plan was to return to the court for the Doha ATP 250 to be held Feb. 19-24, however, the Manarcor native, through a message on his social profiles, officially announced his forfeit from the tournament in Qatar and his return to the court directly at the Indian Wells Masters 1000.
"I would have loved to play in Doha, where the tournament staff and the wonderful Qatari fans have always been very supportive. Unfortunately, I am not yet ready to compete and will not be ableò to be in Doha, where I really wanted to be and play again after the unforgettable victory in 2014. I will focus on work to be ready for the exhibition in Las Vegas and the big tournament in Indian Wells" this is the message of Rafael Nadal.
Before the U.S. tournament, the 22-time slam champion è is expected to play an exhibition match against world number two Carlos Alcaraz, scheduled for March 3, 2024.
In Indian Wells Nadal will participate using protected ranking, on par with Canadian duo Denis Shapovalov-Milos Raonic. The fact that the Spanish player has to start from the first round, in the 96-ranked draw, means that there are many interesting possibilities in the draw.
