The fable of the Südtirol becomes a documentary

The sporting rise of the Südtirol Bolzano soccer team: it is told by “Formula Biancorossa”, airing Friday, Feb. 16, at 4 p.m. on Rai 3. The documentary — a Rai Documentari and Rai Com co-production in cooperation with the Autonomous Province of Bolzano and Rai Bolzano Headquarters — traces the glittering sporting journey that led the Bolzano soccer team — the Fussball Club Südtirol — to the Serie B in 2022.

The Südtirol was founded just under thirty years ago, and in recent years it has achieved results beyond all expectations. In 2022 it won the B series, and in the 22/23 season, after a tough start to the season, the South Tyroleans managed to come close to the A series. By calmly and wisely investing in its resources, the club, founded in 1995, è managed in just a few years to emerge on the Italian football scene. The recipe for this success è the result of several elements in synergy: a deep sense of social and territorial identity, a virtuous corporate model, and the undisputed talent of the team’s players.

It will be their voices that will bring the story to life: that of captain Fabian Tait and goalkeeper Giacomo Poluzzi, teammates and lifelong friends. The two of them will open the locker room doors, involving us in their training and in their lives as athletes and men who grew up in contact with the mountains of the’Alto Adige.

Through the testimonies of players, fans, managers and historical faces of the ’Alto Adige, “Formula Biancorossa” reconstructs the club’s evolution, trying to identify the key that allowed a football and cultural transformation so disruptive that it became a case.

Rai Documentaries pays tribute to the South Tyrolean team, giving us a never-before-seen and engaging sports narrative that testifies to the greatness of the champions who were part of it and the factors that determined their success. The ’work è written by Liza Boschin and Patrizio Li Donni, with direction by Michele Melani.
