Federica Brignone looks ahead but admits one regret
Federica Brignone already looks ahead to descent-bis
The sixth place finish in the first of the two Alpine Ski World Cup downhill races scheduled in Crans Montana, Switzerland, is a tight squeeze for Federica Brignone, who by her own admission committed a couple of blunders that prevented her from reaching the podium in the race won by Swiss champion Lara Gut-Behrami.
"I made a mistake in the penultimate turn,” the Aosta Valley native commented to the official channels of the Italian Winter Sports Federation, “I throw away race after race with excellent intermediates. However, a sixth place in the downhill for me è a good result. I want to look at the glass half full. I could have been on the podium for sure".
"I tried to do the race at my best,” added Brignone, “but unfortunately that mistake è cost me so much. I am growing again, I have to be able to be in the race at 100 percent. I had a good run today. I wasn’t so loose yet, but less stiff than usual, but I made the turns at the right time. A mistake fits and tomorrow I will try again".
The Women’s Alpine Skiing World Cup is making a stop in Switzerland for this weekend of racing. After the first downhill run on Friday, the date is set for Saturday, Feb. 17, with the downhill-bis, while on Sunday, Feb. 18, the triptych in the Valais canton will close with the super-giant, again on the Mont Lachaux slope.
