Sassuolo, Alessio Dionisi exonerated: fatal defeat against Empoli
The new coach will make his debut this week in the rematch against Napoli
Dionisi's adventure on the Sassuolo bench è ended. Compounded by the defeat to Empoli, Sassuolo decided to relieve the 43-year-old coach (in his third season in charge of the neroverdi). Too many the 15 defeats he cashed in the season, compared with only five successes. In 11 championships in the top league, è only the second time Sassuolo has changed the coach in the current season (first and only previous in 2017 with Iachini replacing Bucchi).
At this point, communication is awaited from the neroverde company on the new coach who will take Dionisi’s place. In pole position, there would be Bigica, who leads Sassuolo’s spring team. He would not be the'only option in play. Other names are being floated, including those of Semplici and even Ballardini, the latter of whom is used to taking teams in the course of the season.
For Dionisi it is, undoubtedly, a hard blow. Called to lead Sassuolo in the summer of 2021, he was back from two not-so-brilliant but still acceptable seasons with, respectively, an 11° and a 13° place. The exoneration è the consequence also of the many injuries that have affected the current season, especially the various physical problems to Berardi, the star of the team.
