Rafa Nadal explains forfeit in Monte Carlo

In a lengthy message posted on his social channels, Rafa Nadal officially announced that he will not take part in the Monte Carlo tournament, the first Masters 1000 on clay this season. Nadal has not taken the court since last March 3, when he faced Carlos Alcaraz in an exhibition match, losing in three sets.

"These are hard times for me sportingly speaking,” the Majorcan wrote.

Unfortunately, I inform you that I will not play in Monte Carlo. Simply my body does not allow me to do so. And although I continue to work and work hard every day with the ambition of being able to compete in very important tournaments for me, the reality is that today I cannot".

"You cannot imagine how difficult it is for me not to have the chanceà to play these events once again,” Nadal added. I just have to accept the situation and try to look to the immediate future while maintaining hope and the will to give myself a chance to make things better. A big hug to everyone and thank you for the affection and support".

Friendly against Alcaraz aside, Nadal è took the court in 2024 on only three other occasions, at the tournament in Brisbane, Australia: the tally è of two wins, both in two sets against Dominic Thiem and Jason Kubler, and one loss, in the quarters against Jordan Thompson.
