Rome, May 18, Stadio dei Marmi: Marcell Jacobs will run the 100 meters in the historic facility named after Pietro Mennea at the Roma Sprint Festival, returning from the United States and less than three weeks before the Rome 2024 European Championships. “I can’t wait to be there, running at home will be a’very good experience – Jacobs’s words to Sky Sport – The Sprint Festival will be an important race, my first in Italy: I want revenge after two complicated seasons. This year I will be able to say I am happy if I can confirm the two titles in the 100 at the European and Olympic Games”. So Jacobs’ calendar of individual competitions is being composed, which at the moment also includes the 100 meters in Ostrava on May 28, ahead of the European Championships in Rome in which he will try to defend the title won in Munich two years ago: final scheduled on the evening of Saturday, June 8 at the Olympic Stadium. Thinking already of the Paris Olympics.
The track at the Stadio dei Marmi, with its new gray coloring, è underwent extensive upgrading by Sport and Health in view of the European Championships to be held June 7-12 at the Olympic Stadium and Foro Italico Park fifty years after the last edition organized in Italy. Roma Sprint Festival will’therefore be an important approach stage, in a prestigious setting, framed by marble statues and dedicated to the memory of the man who wrote the history of Italian athletics, Pietro Mennea. The event conceived by former Italian fourcenter Claudio Licciardello and Andrea Amato will be spread over two stages: April 13 in Florence and May 18 in Rome. The’full list of participants will be made official in the coming weeks.

There is no shortage of support from Roma Capitale, which has also espoused the Roma Sprint Festival project in 2024, further strengthening the collaboration between the city institution and the event. Councillor for Major Events, Sport, Tourism and Fashion, Alessandro’Onorato, commented as follows: “The Roma Sprint Festival è important because it enhances the great sports talents that, especially in view of the Olympics and the European Athletics Championships to be held in Rome, become an example for many girls and boys of our city.
