Monte Carlo, Jannik Sinner’s turn: facing the hostile Sebastian Korda
Last year, the South Tyrolean è was beaten in two sets at the Adelaide tournament
Finally, Jannik Sinner. At lunchtime (rain permitting), the Italian will make his Monte Carlo debut. On the other side of the net will be Korda, a decidedly indigestible player. Class of 2000, son of 'art, the American, in the last showdown between the two, staged at the Adelaide tournament last year, è won in two sets (7-5, 6-2). The record, in total, is a perfect tie: 1-1 (Sinner beat him in Washington in 2021).
Born and raised in Florida, è son of Petr Korda, winner of the 1998 Australian Open. He è has never been among the top 20 in the world (23° in October 2023) but, if on a good day, he can bother anyone, given the talent he has. Confirmation è was last year’s Adelaide victory precisely against Sinner, who, however, has è grown enormously since then, as his current ranking certifies.
However, it will be an important test for Sinner to assess his form on clay. The South Tyrolean believes he can also be competitive on this surface: "If we look at the results of last year, maybe the clay is not 100% congenial to me, although in Monte Carlo, a year ago, I played the semifinals", the words of the same Sinner, who is ready to assert himself on clay as well. The first hurdle è anything but easy but also perfect to see if Jannik Sinner canò shine on red as well.
