The words of Luciano Darderi

Luciano Darderi spoke in a press conference after the beautiful victory obtained against Gael Monfils: "I am delighted, I had some pressure at the beginning of the match. Playing against Gael on the Madrid Central è was exciting, I had a hard time falling asleep! I managed to play very good tennis, I am happy with how it went. I improved a lot physically and mentally, I think I was able to show that more in the most important matches I played this year. We worked very hard with my physical trainer and my dadà who è has been my coach all my life. I was prepared for the big jump, I was coming from a period where I had been playing well for several months. In Cordoba I was able to play my best tennis and from there on things went well. I had the level, it was just a matter of being able to express it. Now the ’goal è to go up in the ranking and continue to keep this level, which è the most important thing”.

"Playing in Rome will beà very special, I also lived theì two years, between 16 and 18. Then even more; being in Italy it will beà a big event, with all the cheering that there will be. È the most special tournament of the year, I used to go and follow it live when I was moreù small. I’m very excited to be able to play there again, last year I was just one spot out of the qualifiers and this year I’m in the main draw. I didn’t expect to get there so quickly, I’m very happy with everything I’ve done so far. I will continue to work with humility”.

Inevitable question about Sinner: "Jannik è incredible, both as a player and as a person. I don’t know him very well, però he always greets me and always behaves in a great way with me and my team. È very humble, I think that is a key aspect in a player. È an example for everybody, not only for Italians, but for all tennis players, juniors and those who are starting to play. È very close to being No. 1, Italian tennis è grown so much lately, with even nine players in the top100. As much in Argentina as in Italy, tennis è at a great level".
