Filippo Ganna returns to the Giro with a double goal
Filippo Ganna will be at the start of the Giro d'Italia 2024
There'è also the name of Filippo Ganna in the list of Ineos Grenadiers riders who will take part in the Giro d'Italia 2024. The champion from Verbania, who was forced last year to stop after seven stages due to Covid, will return to participate in the Corsa Rosa with a double objective: to win the two individual time trials and to flank his team captain, Geraint Thomas, to the best of his ability.
Together with Thomas (second last year, behind 2023 Giro winner Primoz Roglic) and Ganna, the Ineos Grenadiers will present themselves at the start of Venaria Reale with Thymen Arensman (sixth overall in 2023), Ben Swift, Jhonatan Narvaez (winner of the Cesenatico stage in 2020), Tobias Foss (among the protagonists at the recent Tour of the Alps, with a stage win), Magnus Sheffield and Connor Swift.
Ganna, a two-time world time trial champion as well as a multiple track medalist at continental, rainbow and Olympic level, boasts six stage wins at the Giro, four in 2020 and two the following year, and had the privilege of wearing the pink jersey for several days during those very two editions. The one in 2024 will be his fourth Giro d'Italia.
Last year, the Verbanese è was overtaken in the time trial by only Remco Evenepoel, while he could not take part in the other time trials due to Covid, which forced him to leave the caravan just on the eve of the Cesena time trial, Ganna's own declared goal.
