Matteo Arnaldi reveals his big dream
The words of Matteo Arnaldi
Matteo Arnaldi made it through the first round of the Madrid Masters 1000, defeating Australia's Christopher O'Connell in two sets (6-4 6-1). "Definitely è it was a positive match,” he admitted, in the words reported by Ubitennis. “We started a little bit; so’ it was not easy to play. The conditions here in Madrid are always different, you have to get used to it. However, since I found the break at the end of the first set and then I won it I raised the level a lot, I am happy about that".
The Azure will now face Daniil Medvedev: "With him I played twice on concrete, once in quite fast conditions, in Dubai, while in Toronto they were not so fast. We are not used to playing Madrid conditions, but I played well here last year. I can’t say I love them, but I certainly play well here. It’s going to be a completely different match from the other two, for’he’s still the No. 4 in the world. It’s going to be a tough match, but he’ll try to give his best".
In the last edition of the Spanish tournament Arnaldi got his first ATP victory: "The results"have definitely changed from a year ago, but otherwise not much has changed. I played for the first time the whole year on the ATP circuit, taking part in many tournaments that before I only watched on TV. The rest hasnè changed not so much: I always train the same way, then sì, the courts you play on are better, there’è more people watch you, but what you do è always the same. It’s good to be here with a completely different ranking, now we are fighting to take the top spot in the Slams. È it has been a very important year, but we keep working to improve”.
Finally, the Ligurian tennis player revealed his big dream for this year: "It would be incredible to play the Olympics. A tournament that we never play, a competition that you always watch as a child. You don't play for points or money, you play for Italy. To win a medal would be something incredible".
