Madrid: Jannik Sinner-Lorenzo Sonego, set time for derby

Jannik Sinner è ready to make his debut in the Mutua Madrid Open, where for the first time he will be the number one seed in a Masters 1000. The South Tyrolean will start directly from the second round where he will face friend and compatriot Lorenzo Sonego, number 53 in the ATP rankings, who beat in the first round Richard Gasquet in two sets (6-2 7-5).

The all-Italian derby between Sinner and Sonego will be the second match scheduled on the center court, the 'Manolo Santana Stadium', and is scheduled no earlier than 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 27. Opening the dances, at 11 a.m., will be the queen of women’s tennis Iga Swiatek, who will take on Romanian Sorana Cirstea, the 27th seed.

There are four previous matches between Jannik Sinner and Lorenzo Sonego, with the world number two holding a 4-0 advantage. The most recent one was in Vienna when Sinner won in two sets (6-2 6-4), in the match qualifying for the round of 16. The South Tyrolean's other victories came at the Us Open, Halle and Montpellier. This is però the first confrontation between the two on clay.

On Saturday there will be two more Azzurri on the court: Matteo Arnaldi will take on the fourth seed on the draw Daniil Medvedev on Court 3 after two women’s singles matches, while Flavio Cobolli, opposing Nicolas Jarry, the number 22 seed, will close the program on Court 5.
