Atalanta beats Empoli, show tie between Napoli and Roma
Atalanta-Empoli 2-0; Napoli-Roma 2-2
The two 6 p.m. matches on Sunday of the 34th day of Serie A ended with a win and a draw. Atalanta, in fact, came out on top with a clear 2-0 win over Empoli, moving considerably closer to the Champions zone, while Napoli and Roma did not go beyond a 2-2 draw, with as many as two goals scored in the final minutes.
At the 'Gewiss Stadium' Atalanta found the leading goal in the final stages of the first half on a penalty kick: Tourè was knocked down in the box by Pezzella and from the penalty spot Pasalic è deftly beat Caprile. In the second half, Gasperini's men immediately found the double at 51': Lookman retrieved the ball in the middle of the field, sprinted forward and from the edge of the box beat the Tuscans'extreme defender with a precise left-footed shot. After the pinwheel of changes, Empoli tries to make itself dangerous from the sides of Carnesecchi, but the best chances happen to the hosts, who come close several times to the third goal.
At the Stadium 'Diego Armando Maradona' everything happens in the second half. Roma took the lead in 59': Azmoun anticipated Juan Jesus in the box and the referee awarded the penalty kick, which Dybala skillfully converted beating Meret. The Giallorossi's joy, however, lasts only five minutes, as Oliveira finds the equalizing goal with the complicity of Kristensen, who deflects the Uruguayan side's shot putting Svilar out of action. Napoli continued to push and at 84'84' managed to overturn the result with Osimhen, who converted from the penalty spot the penalty procured by Kvaratskhelia. In the final minutes, however, came the mockery for Calzona’s men: on a loose ball, N'dicka backpedaled to Abraham, who sealed the final 2-2.
With this success, Atalanta moves to 57 points, just two points behind fifth-place Roma. It serves little purpose as a draw for Napoli, which remains nine points away from the Champions League zone. Empoli, on the other hand, remains stuck at 31 points, in the midst of the salvation struggle. In addition, thanks to the draw between the partenopei and giallorossi, Milan è arithmetically certain of qualification to the next Champions League.
