Fabio Fognini-Casper Ruud 6-4 7-5 6-7 6-3

An eternal Fabio Fognini flew to the third round of Wimbledon. In fact, the 37-year-old Ligurian defeated world number eight Casper Ruud, who once again failed to advance beyond the second round at the Championships, in four sets, with a final score of 6-4 7-5 6-7 6-3 after three hours and eighteen minutes of play.

Fognini got off to a strong start and immediately won the break in the third game, thanks in part to a few too many errors by Ruud. The Italian, except for the sixth game in which he has to cancel two counter-break balls, has no particular problems on serve and keeps the break lead until the 6-4 final.

In the second set Fognini still has the opportunity to break his opponent in the third game but squanders two break points. The Ligurian, then, è forced to save as many in two consecutive turnovers (in the sixth and eighth games). When the tie-break seems to be the natural epilogue of the partial, Ruud però stumbles into a lapse: on 5-5 he surrenders the serve at zero to Fognini, who thanks and closes for 7-5.

In the third set, the&39;balance is broken at 2-2: the Italian breaks serve from the Norwegian (3-2), confirms the lead (4-2) and goes to serve for the match, repeating the break (5-2). Here forò comes Ruud&#39s angry reaction, stringing four consecutive games, even canceling a match point to the Ligurian and reopening the match, winning the third partial at the tie-break.

Fabio però did not get discouraged and in the fourth set è again he ran away in the score: on 4-3, in fact, the Italian climbed up from 15-40 and at the advantages snatched the serve from Ruud. Called to serve for the match, Fognini this time does not tremble and on the fourth match point closes the score with a winning forehand.

Fognini thus reaches the third round at Wimbledon for the seventh time in his career. Here he will face the winner of the match between Lorenzo Sonego and Roberto Bautista Agut, in what could be yet another blue derby on the English lawns of the All England Club.
