Wimbledon, Jasmine Paolini in the third round
On Wimbledon’s No. 1 court, in a second-round match played with the grass court covered due to the danger of rain, Jasmine Paolini, world No. 7 and Roland Garros finalist, beat Belgian Greet Minnen, No. 80, with a score of 7-6 6-2 in one’hour and 32 minutes of play.
There are as many as six breaks in the first set, four in the first four games, only Paolini takes some lead going 5-3 but serving for the set suffers at zero the immediate counterbreak. It then goes to the tie-break which è a mirror of what happened in the set: the first to win a point on her own serve è Jasmine on 4-4! The Tuscan on 6-4 has two set points, the first one she misses but the second è the good one.
Predictably, the second set is dominated by the Italian, who flies on 4-0, on 4-1 she loses one of the two break leads but immediately takes it back and closes the match by holding the serve to zero. Now the 28-year-old from Bagni di Lucca will face in the third round, just like at Roland Garros where she later è reached the final, Canadian Bianca Andreescu, winner of the 2019 US Open.
