Euro 2024, Mbappé challenges Cristiano Ronaldo: one is too many
The "old" champion against the new Real Madrid ace
Today it’s back on the field. Two space challenges are scheduled at Euro 2024: Spain-Germany (6 p.m.) and Portugal-France (9 p.m.). Lots of anticipation for the confrontation between Cristiano Ronaldo, Portugal’s leader, and Mbappé, France’s undisputed star. One of the two will have to say goodbye to the European Championships.
Cristiano Ronaldo is playing his sixth (and probably last) European Championship. He has yet to score a goal. His mistake from 11 meters against Slovenia, with subsequent weeping, have gone around the world. CR7 does not want to end his European adventure without scoring, as he is also the event’s top All-time scorer (14 goals).
On the other side there's a Mbappé who wants to certify his status as the new king of soccer by eliminating what è was a landmark of his childhood: "He è and will remain; a legend but here I hope to beat him. He should be admired for what he was as a young man and for what he è is today", the words of Mbappé, ready to send CR7 home and, then, take his place at Real Madrid.
France has not shined so far as to have failed to score a single goal on action. The Deschamps-led national team made the quarterfinals by scoring only three goals: one penalty and as many as two own goals. Portugal did better but has yet to celebrate a Cristiano Ronaldo goal. Plenty of insights not to miss Portugal-France.
