Fabio Fognini knocked out in two days: Bautista triumphs in fifth

Fabio Fognini does not break the tabù third round at Wimbledon. The Ligurian, in fact, surrendered in the fifth set to Spaniard Roberto Bautista Agut, number 112 in the world but a semifinalist at the Championships in 2019, who prevailed with a final score of 7-6 3-6 5-7 7-6 6-4 after almost four and a half hours of struggle.
Fatal was the resumption of the match for the Blue. The match, in fact, had been interrupted by rain on Friday with the 37-year-old Taggiasco ahead 2 sets to 1 and down 4-5 in the fourth set, but without a break. Fabio actually restarted well, holding the serve in the advantages and retaking his opponent (5-5).
To doom Fognini, however, è once again the tie-break: if in the one of the first set the Ligurian had squandered a 4-1 lead and serve, committing two bloody consecutive double faults, and then surrendering at the advantages (6-8), in the one of the fourth set there was no history, with Bautista Agut winning it 7-1.
In the fifth and decisive set Fognini got off to a bad start, giving up the serve in the third game. The blue però reacted immediately, signing the counter-break (2-2). On 4-4 the Ligurian stumbled into a bad serve, giving up serve again. Bautista Agut, called to serve for the match, did not let himself be begged and closed 6-4, giving himself the round of 16.
