Cancelled in mourning the last stage of the Tour of Austria

The Tour of Austria will close with a condolence ride to remember Norwegian André Drege, who died yesterday after a crash. This was announced by organizers after consulting with the family and teams.

"The Tourtross and the entire cycling world are shocked,” the statement read.

The memorial ride was an explicit wish of André s father, his teammates and the entire team". The 25-year-old Norwegian è fell on the descent from Grossglockner yesterday during the queen stage of the race and è was found unconscious on the road. Resuscitation measures were unsuccessful. Police have therefore launched an investigation.

"All of us are devastated by this tragic accident and our prayers are with Andrés family, those who loved him and his Coop-Repsol team at this extremely difficult time", said race director Thomas Pupp. With the cancellation of the fifth and final stage, the Tour of Austria è was won by Diego Ulissi (Uae Team Emirates) ahead of Brandon Rivera and Magnus Sheffield of Ineos Grenadiers.

Drege will also be remembered before the start of the ninth stage of the Tour de France: riders from the Norwegian Uno-X team will be called to the starting line five minutes before the start of the ninth stage in Troyes to pay tribute to Drege, as announced by the Tour organizers.
