Wimbledon: Fritz recovers Zverev and joins Musetti in quarters: ‘It’s going to be tough’
Wimbledon: Taylor Fritz joins Lorenzo Musetti in the quarterfinals
Taylor Fritz joins Lorenzo Musetti in the Wimbledon quarterfinals at the end of a great comeback against Alexander Zverev, world and seeded number 4. The American è won in the fifth set against the German with a final score of 4-6 6-7 6-4 7-6 6-3 after three and a half hours of battle.
Trailing by two sets in which Zverev conceded crumbs on serve, Fritz è managed to turn the tide of the match, thanks in part to a service lapse by the German at 4-4 in the third set in which he committed two double faults. Having halved the disadvantage, the American evened the score by winning the fourth set at tie-break, then closing 6-3 in the fifth set in which he showed greater physical brilliance.
"It's unbelievable to have done such a thing on the Wimbledon Central in front of this crowd – Fritz said hotly, in the words reported by SuperTennis – I felt I was playing too well to be down two sets and itè bad to find myself like that. Although I lost the first two sets I was convinced that with one step at a time I would be able to turn this match".
" My team always supports me so much, and this tournament for us è really a great experience. He with his knee was not well in the 5°set, I wish him the best. Against Musetti it will be tough, he is playing a great season on grass, forò these second quarters at Wimbledon give me the ambition to be able to aim for something more" commented the world number 12
