Daniil Medvedev explains how he handled Jannik Sinner’s illness

Jannik Sinner è surrendered to Daniil Medvedev in the Wimbledon quarterfinals. The Russian è won in five sets (6-7 6-4 7-6 2-6 6-3) after a four-hour battle in which the world number one also suffered an illness early in the third set. The South Tyrolean è recovered after a long break in the locker room but still could not avoid defeat.

"If you want to beat Jannik the match has to be tough – commented Medvedev, in the 'Centre Court' interview after the match – I understood that at one point he was not feeling well, but I understood that he would come back and play well. But I was able to manage, stay consistent with my tennis, I am satisfied with my tennis and I look with confidence ahead".

"I tried to make him play a little bit more to make him suffer a little bit more – added the Russian about the ailment that affected Sinner -, but I knew at some point it would go to everything. I am glad I won the third, I would have preferred to avoid such a situation".

"I managed to play two games on the Central, usually I won one or zero, now I won both. There are two other players to watch, but I look confidently ahead" concluded Medvedev, who reached his second consecutive semifinal at the Championships.
