Many Azzurri competing in Diamond League, and in Rieti dress rehearsal for Marcell Jacobs
Eight Azzurri are entered in the Herculis Meeting, the ninth leg of the Diamond League scheduled to take place tomorrow in Monaco. Among them are Rome European Championships gold medalists Nadia Battocletti (competing in the 5000), Lorenzo Simonelli (110 hurdles) and Filippo Tortu (200 meters).
Also present were double relay silver medalist Luca Sito (400 meters), continental bronze medalists Catalin Tecuceanu (800 meters) and Pietro Arese (1500 meters), high jumper Stefano Sottile and asthlete Roberta Bruni. Simonelli, in addition to the world season leader, Grant Holloway, will have to contend with fellow Americans Cordell Tinch and Trey Cunningham and Frenchman Sasha Zhoya, who won Sunday in Paris.
In the 5000, Battocletti will face a large Ethiopian patrol but not the one he will challenge at the Olympics. In the 200, Tortu will also have to deal with Botswana Letsile Tebogo, world silver in the 100 and bronze in the 200.
At the "Raul Guidobaldi" athletics stadium in Rieti instead Marcell Jacobs in the 100 will carry out a kind of dress rehearsal ahead of defending his Olympic title in Paris 2024.
