Marcell Jacobs opened the pre-Olympic weekend at Rieti’s Guidobaldi Stadium with a victory in his 100-meter battery, the distance of which he will have to defend his five-ring title in Paris 2024, with a time of 10”17 and a headwind of 0.3 m/s.
Jacobs edged ahead of Canadian Jerome Blake (10”23) without pushing, overtaking him in the final after flanking him throughout the race. Then, 10”27 for China’s Chen Jiapeng, 10”29 for his compatriot Deng Zhijian.
In the’other series, however, the wind è was in favor, 1.2 m/s, and winning in 10”05 è was Xie Zhenye, Olympic relay bronze medalist in Tokyo, ahead of Canadian 200 Olympic champion and 100 bronze medalist Andre de Grasse, who finished in 10”13.
Tomorrow, Jacobs will return to the track at 6:20 p.m. for the semifinal and 7:55 p.m. for the final. The Olympic è date is for Sunday, Aug. 4 at the Stade de France, when after the batteries there will be the semifinals at 8 p.m. and the final for the title at 9:55 p.m.
