MacIntyre prophet at home
Twenty-five years after the last victory by a Scottish player, Robert MacIntyre triumphs at the Scottish Open. At North Berwick, MacIntyre finished with a total of 262 strokes (67 65 63 67, -18), thanks to a decisive birdie in the final round, thus capturing his third career title on the DP World Tour, his second on the PGA Tour and his first in a Rolex Series event.
At The Renaissance Club (par 70), the 27-year-old from Oban (who will turn 28 next Aug. 3) narrowly edged out Australian Adam Scott, who finished second with 263 (-17), and Frenchman Romain Langasque, third with 265 (-15). In the final round, Sweden’s Ludvig Aberg, world No. 4, è collapsed, finishing fourth with 266 (-14), tied with Northern Ireland’s Rory McIlroy (winner in 2023) and Americans Collin Morikawa and Sahith Theegala.
Matteo Manassero, the best Italian in the competition, è finished 15th with 268 (67 63 68 70, -12), missing the Top 10 by one stroke due to two bogeys on holes 16 and 18. Manassero was third at the halfway point and eighth at the end of the "moving day" finishing ahead of Francesco Molinari, 46° with 273 (66 69 72 66, -7) after a final round in 66 (-4), which allowed him to recover 15 positions.
2023 è has been an extraordinary year for the Scot, who was part of the Europe team at the Ryder Cup in Rome and continues to distinguish himself as one of the best players of the moment. Victory at the Scottish Open earned him $1,575,000, part of a total prize pool of $9,000,000. The last Scot to win at home was Collin Montgomerie in 1999.
