Anna Kalinskaya as Jannik Sinner three years earlier
Scheduled Absence
Anna Kalinskaya as Jannik Sinner three years earlier. The Russian tennis player, fiancée of the South Tyrolean, declined the IOC's invitation to compete as a neutral athlete at the Olympic Games that kick off next week.
The 25-year-old Muscovite had already made it clear that she did not want to participate in the women’s Olympic tournament, signing up for the one in Washington: the confirmation è came with the recent publication of the list of participating athletes.
Anna’s decision, therefore, is not è related to controversy or the war between Russia and Ukraine, but to a programming choice made earlier. Similar was Sinner’s decision in 2021, when he skipped the Tokyo Games to focus on the American cement season.
In addition to Kalinskaya, Andrey Rublev and Karen Khachanov, Liudmila Samsonova, Daria Kasatkina and Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka have also announced their forfeits for Paris.
