Formula 1 anxious: cloudburst on Hungaroring, paddock flooded

The anxiety there'è has been, but serious consequences on the weekend should be averted.

Formula 1 in apprehension in the middle of the week leading up to the Hungarian Grand Prix. Wednesday at the Hungaroring, the racetrack near Budapest that hosts the race, è was in fact characterized by a real cloudburst. Alarming images bounced back from the Magyar circuit, whose paddock è literally flooded.

Witnessing this were several team insiders, who arrived at the site before the drivers to set up the pits and hospitality. Prominent among them was Calum Nicholas, who is in charge of power unit assembly in Red Bull and who posted a video on social media explaining the situation. "Considering that this è the highest point of the circuit, it is not really looking good", è his comment in front of a river several centimeters high that divides the box from the team wall at the side of the track.

Inconvenience also at McLaren, where hail even caused damage to the hospitality roof. The water bomb però ran out over the course of a few hours, making way for sunshine and warm weather (temperature above 30 degrees). The same weather è forecast for the race weekend, averting the danger of a postponement or even a cancellation for the Hungarian Grand Prix.

The Hungaroring has hosted Formula 1 since 1986 and traditionally sees races characterized by scorching heat. Never had the Hungarian Grand Prix seen rain until 2006, when Jenson Button won for the first time in his Formula 1 career at the wheel of his Honda at the end of a crazy race. Since then, the weather è been inclement much more often: memorable also 2021, with final success of Esteban Ocon on Alpine in another Sunday that started under cloudburst.
