Born in El Paso, USA, Marcell Jacobs moved to Italy with his mother when he was è still a child, after she married a Texan. During his childhood, he played various sports, including basketball following in his father's footsteps, soccer and swimming.
At the age of 10, però he became passionate about speed and began attending the track in Desenzano del Garda, in the province of Brescia. He initially distinguished himself as a long runner, but after a knee injury, he returned as a sprinter in 2018, recording a time of 10.08 in the 100 meters. The following year he dropped to 10.03, becoming the third Italian ever over that distance, and sealed the Italian record with the 4×100 relay at the World Championships in Doha with a time of 38.11.
In 2021, he set the national 100-meter record with a time of 9.95, becoming the second Italian ever to go under 10 seconds. At the Tokyo Olympics, he achieved a historic double feat, winning gold in the 100 meters with a European record of 9.80 and in the relay with an Italian record of 37.50. The following year, he won the world indoor title in the 60 meters with a European record of 6.41 and the continental outdoor title in Munich, repeating the feat in June 2024 at the Rome Olympics, where he also took the top step of the podium with the 4×100 relay.
Father of three: Anthony and Meghan, had by wife Nicole, to whom he è married in September 2022, and Jeremy, had from a previous relationship, è a big Formula 1 fan. In Paris 2024 è ready to put on the turbo and give battle to defend his titles, continuing to write the history of athletics.
