When Carlos Alcaraz can blow away number one from Jannik Sinner.
When Carlos Alcaraz canò blow the number one spot to Jannik Sinner
Jannik Sinner è in his sixth week as world number one: despite his Wimbledon quarterfinal defeat and despite rival Carlos Alcaraz's victory in London, the Blue still enjoys a substantial lead of more than 1,000 points over Novak Djokovic and 1440 points over the Murcia champion.
Thanks to the splendid first part of the season, Jannik can calmly prepare for the Olympics without fear of an overtaking by his closest rivals. The five-ring competition will be held from July 27 to Aug. 4, and immediately the following week the Montreal Masters 1000 will begin, where Sinner should theoretically defend the 1,000 points he won thanks to his victory last season.
The Blue will hardly want to be in Canada if he makes it to the bottom of the Olympic tournament, but he will probably be on the court in Cincinnati, where instead it will be Djokovic who will have to defend last season’s victory, when he beat Alcaraz himself in the final.
Barring a double win in Toronto and Cincinnati by one of his rivals, Sinner is expected to arrive at the Us Open still as world number one, after 13 weeks at the helm. Flushing Meadows, on the other hand, will be decisive in determining the hierarchies of world tennis until the end of 2024.
