Bebe Vio makes a stop in L’Aquila before Paris

The city of L’Aquila will host from July 28 to August 2 the retreat of the Italian Paralympic fencing national team a month before the start of the Paris 2024 Games. After the excellent results of the’last World Cup round held in Warsaw, the Azzurri in Abruzzo will begin the final rush of preparation ahead of the big event scheduled in the French capital from Sept. 3 to 7, to which Italy will present itself with a record presence of 10 athletes and all four qualified teams.

In L’Aquila, the Canadian Hotel will be the headquarters for the summoned Azzurri, who will train at the Attiva gymnasium. Answering the call for collegiate training will be Matteo Betti, Matteo Dei Rossi, Edoardo Giordan, Emanuele Lambertini, Julia Markowska, Michele Massa, Ionela Andreea Mogos, Gianmarco Paolucci, Rossana Pasquino, Loredana Trigilia and Bebe Vio.

The delegation will be led by FIS Paralympic Sector Coordinator Dino Meglio and Weapon Managers Marco Ciari for saber, Francesco Martinelli for epee and Simone Vanni for foil. Also on the technical staff are Andrea Baldini and Simone Mazzoni for foil, Davide Cenedese and Antonio Iannaccone for epee, and Amedeo Giani and Antongiulio Stella for saber. Also supporting the athletes are doctor Gianvito Rapisarda, physiotherapist Christian Lorenzini, athletic trainers Michele Mariotti and Giuseppe Cerqua, the host as he is from L’Aquila, and weapons technician Antonino Aiello.

The Italian Paralympic fencing national team in its Abruzzo retreat has also scheduled a meeting with local institutions and citizenship, which will be held on Aug. 1°, beginning at 7 p.m., at the Sala Ance L’Aquila.
